Subaru's Need for Speed

Every so often Subaru does something crazy, and we love them for it. Earlier this winter they ran a Subaru WRX STI down (and then back up) a bobsled track. That was months ago though. What is Subaru doing now? It's all in the name of the new Subaru SRX STI Type RA. The first two acronyms should be recognizable to all Subaru fans, but "Type RA" is the special part of the name. It's short for Record Attempt.

Subaru is aiming to set a new record for a four-door sedan at the famous Nürburgring course in Nürburg, Germany. The Subaru SRX STI Type RA is specially built to be as fast as possible, and they plan to use it to its fullest extent. It still has the familiar 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine under the hood, but some special customization manages to eke out an extra five horsepower, bringing its total up to 310. It is also much lighter than a standard Subaru WRX STI; if it doesn't help the car go fast, Subaru took it out. While the Subaru WRX STI Type RA will be available to purchase, it will be difficult to get a hold of one, as only 500 are being produced. Still, it will be a treat to see Subaru try to set another record. We can't wait to see how the attempt goes, and we really can't wait to see what Subaru does next.
