New 2020 Subaru Ascent

What the 2021 Subaru Ascent Offers

One of the newer midsize crossover SUVs around, the Subaru Ascent has managed to generate a sizeable profile within a highly competitive class. Credit that mostly to Subaru's reputation for giving every single one of its vehicles an all-wheel-drive system to optimize traction on slippery surfaces. It also doesn't hurt that the Ascent is laden with tech features, and it bears the distinction of being the largest vehicle Subaru has released so far. For 2021, the tech features are boosted with the addition of steering-responsive LED headlights with automatic high beams as standard, as well as lane centering and lane-keep assist attached to adaptive cruise control. Customers in the North Franklin area can choose between base, Premium, Limited, and Touring trim levels.

Now standard on the Subaru Ascent, the steering-responsive LED headlights turn in the direction of the steering, rather than the vehicle itself, for increased accuracy. The automatic high beams turn on to improve your viewing ability during low-visibility situations; and turn off upon detecting approaching traffic to prevent blinding fellow motorists. Lane centering and lane-keep assist work together to maintain your path of travel on your intended lane so that you don't accidentally hit anyone as you commute to Hartford.

Steering-responsive LED headlights, automatic high beams, and lane centering and lane-keep assist join an already robust driver-assistance suite known as EyeSight. This family of technologies includes pre-collision braking to help prevent front-end collisions, adaptive cruise control for maintaining a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, and sway warning to maintain stability on the road. Six airbags, including two frontal impact, two side-impact, and two side-curtain airbags, provide restraint and cushioning when there's a crash. Other standard safety features include vehicle dynamics control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake override and brake assist, a rearview camera for flashing a video image when moving in reverse, and daytime running lights to make the vehicle more conspicuous to pedestrians and fellow drivers.

New London customers who go with the Premium gain blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert for more driver assistance; these features help prevent side clashes and watch out for vehicles crossing the path behind you. Added at the Limited trim level is reverse automatic braking. Joining the rearview camera on the Touring is a 180-degree front-view monitor to optimize your viewing perspective.

Middletown drivers can accommodate up to eight people with the Ascent's trio of cloth-trimmed rows. However, if you go with the Premium or Limited trim, you have the choice of swapping the second-row bench-style seat with a pair of captain's seats to reduce maximum capacity to seven. Notably, the Touring is a seven-seater, with no option to get the bench-style seat to make it an eight-seater. If you want to optimize cargo volume to 86.5 cubic feet (or 86 cubic feet on the Touring), you can fold down the second- and third-row seats.

The Premium trim gains stain-resistant cloth seat trim, front-seat heating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The luxury-oriented Limited gets leather seat trim and steering-wheel and second-row seat heating. Unique to the comfort-optimized Touring is front-seat cooling.

Central to the Subaru Ascent's infotainment is the Starlink multimedia system. Using a 6.5-inch touchscreen as its interface, Starlink brings together a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system with a single-disc CD player, Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, HD Radio for digital tuning, voice activation technology, trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link, and smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Air vents are placed at all three rows, with the first two rows getting climate controls for the driver, front passenger, and second-row occupants.

The Premium model gains a larger, 8-inch touchscreen, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot for wireless Internet access at 4G LTE speeds. At the Limited trim level, Norwich, CT drivers will welcome the increased convenience of access and engine starting with keyless entry and push-button engine start, respectively. Also added are two charging-only USB ports for third-row passengers, auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror to conquer headlight glare from behind you, and the HomeLink universal transceiver for remote-controlling home features such as security systems and garage doors. Unique to the Touring are 8-inch touchscreen navigation and a 14-speaker surround-sound system.

Trim Options

Subaru provides a trio of packages for the 2021 Subaru Ascent. Local customers can spruce up their vehicles by adding a power liftgate with height memory, keyless access with push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, HomeLink, and reverse automatic braking if going with the Premium. There's another package that adds 20-inch alloy wheels (in place of smaller, 18-inch ones), a panoramic moonroof for letting in air and light when needed, 8-inch touchscreen navigation, and a cargo-area cover for concealing bags and groceries on the Premium. The Limited provides the option of going with a package that combines the Harman Kardon audio system with the previously mentioned navigation system and cargo-area cover.
